History

Border Jack is a cross between Border Collie & Jack Russell Terrier. Because it is a hybrid, there is no detailed history available.

Temperament & Personality

Border Jacks are smart, fearless, and vocal dogs due to their hunting heritage. With the right training techniques, they will be perfect companion dogs. Although friendly with humans, they do not tolerate the harsh behavior. Supervise their exposure to children due to their hyperactive nature. These dogs do not appreciate other pets around and may confront them too.

Exercise

To meet its regular energy requirements, 30-40 minutes of heavy activities is essential. It loves to fetch, jump and scamper so the owner should play with the dog daily.

Grooming

Brush the coat of the Border Jack every week to remove loose hairs as well as dead hairs. Bathe it only when important and brush their teeth 2-3 times a week to avoid tartar buildup. Its nails should be trimmed every month by a professional vet.

Health Problems

Common health issues with the Border Collie terrier mix pets are allergies,  glaucoma, deafness, patellar luxation,  progressive retinal atrophy hip dysplasia, and epilepsy.

Training

These dogs are stubborn, so first-time dog owners will find it difficult to train them. They require firm and consistent trainer who needs to establish themselves as the leader. Socialize the dog to curb its aggressiveness. Visit dog parks to allow it to interact with other pets and children. Obedience training should be done during the puppyhood. Involve games in daily activities and use positive methods to guide it properly.

Feeding

The diet of the Border Jack should include high protein foods and good quality dog food should be fed 1½ to 2 cups per day.
