CHORKIE

History

The Chorkie is a hybrid dog which is assumed to be first bred in the year 1990 and is a Yorkie chihuahua mix, which makes it vary in size. It is a small dog that is characterized by its small head and large ears and eyes. It comes in different sizes which varies according to the genes it has inherited.

Temperament and Personality

The dog is sweet and loves to spend time with family members of all ages and even pets. They are excellent watchdogs as they bark loudly to alert its family if they see the intruder. It can be shy at times if they watch any stranger but can mix with them very well if introduced by the owner. Having a smart and confident nature makes them challenging against other large dogs.

Exercise

Although the breed is small in size, they are quite energetic and require regular activity. Jogging and daily walks is more beneficial than playing indoor games which gives them mental stimulation and balance in fitness.

Grooming

Usually, it does not shed but tends to get dirty so regular brushing can keep them away from tangles. Bathe them when necessary or wipe clean with wet cloth occasionally. Brush its teeth 1-2 times a week to avoid tooth decay and trim its nails if grown too long.

Health Problems

It doesn't have inherited disorders but can be prone to the general dog issues joint problem of small legs, hypoglycemia, skin problems, ear and eye infection.

Training

Chorkie puppies being highly intelligent have inherited this quality from its parents and are capable of catching up things quickly. Due to their stubbornness, they might not listen to whatever taught, so they require an assertive, firm, calm and consistent teacher. Apply reward-based method of training and avoid harsh tones and frustration.

Feeding

Provide them with ½ to 1 cup of high-quality dry kibble every day split into at least two or three meals. Their food should contain more amounts of calories in comparison to large dogs to provide balanced energy levels.
