History

The Dalmador is a cross between the Dalmatian and the Labrador Retriever. Most of them obtain the attributes of the Lab and have spots on their body. Few of these dogs have marks and Dalmatian properties. Although their origin is not well-documented, they have official recognition from many associations and clubs.

Temperament & Personality

Dalmadors are fantastic companion dogs and have a cheerful and loving nature. Their mild behavior and friendliness help them mingle with family members. They protect children and other animals in times of danger and entertain themselves when left alone. Also adept as watchdogs, they alert their owners if they sense a threat.

Care

Exercise

Long walks and jogging are helpful to keep the Dalmador in a cheerful mood. Play sessions will keep it active and provide the required mental and physical stimulation. Access to a fenced yard is useful, although visiting a dog park is also good as it will help in socializing.

Grooming

As high shedders, Dalmadors require daily brushing to maintain their coat. Bathe them occasionally using a dog shampoo to protect the natural oils of the skin. Clip the long nails with the right tools and wipe their ears to prevent infections.

Health Problems

Since no significant issues have been reported to affect them, it can be said the Dalmadors are a healthy breed. Common problems include allergies, hip dysplasia, deafness, etc. which are possibly inherited from its parents.

Training

Patience is the key to train the Dalmador appropriately. With persistence and constant motivation, the positive effects will be there to see. Teach it basic obedience and socialization skills to help it blend with others. If there are any complications during the process, contact an expert or go to a dog school.

Feeding

Proteins, vitamins, and carbohydrates are essential to keep these dogs in good shape. Feed them Nutritious dog food three to four cups daily. You can also add dry kibbles to their diet. Make sure they drink enough water, and place the water bowl somewhere they can reach quickly.
