ENGLISH MASTWEILER

History

A hybrid of the English Mastiff and the Rottweiler, English Mastweiler was developed by breeders in Birmingham who were looking to create a dog with good guarding and working abilities. They were a part of the military and police departments and also excellent family dogs.

Temperament & Personality

The Mastweiler is a loyal and affectionate dog with a gentle nature. Their territorial instincts make them excellent watchdogs.  Supervision is necessary before exposing them to children and small animals. Its body is more adjustable in cold conditions than warm weather.

Exercise

Mastweilers are highly energetic and can jump to great heights with ease. Daily walks and play sessions are vital in providing adequate stimulation.

Grooming

These low maintenance dogs need regular brushing to remove dead hairs. Clean and wipe their eyes to avoid infections. Clip their long nails and hairs by taking them to a professional groomer.

Health Problems

Their sensitive stomach can be a cause for concern. Infections, trembling muscles, and allergies to corn and chicken are prevalent.

Training

Although the Mastweilers learn quickly, their stubborn attitude can be a problem. They need a patient and consistent leader who will act as their pack leader. Teach them socialization and obedience skills right from puppyhood to develop their character. Always use positive methods like praises and treats.

Feeding

Give them 4-6 cups of nutritious dog food, split into three meals each day. Always check what they are eating as wrong food can cause complications in the stomach.
