History

Labrottie is a rottweiler lab mix puppies. They don’t have a typical History. Initially, Labrador was called St. John’s dog, but later called as Labrador, after the Labrador Sea. It is thought that the Rottweiler resulted from a crossbreeding of German Shepherd with the Roman Drover dog around 74 AD.

Temperament & Personality

Labrottie dogs are extremely loyal to their owners and other family members. These devoted and docile animals are frequently seen following their owner. Due to their eager to please personality, these dogs often try to amuse their family with their clownish behaviour. They might show their destructive side if the owner keeps them away from them for a long period of time. Due to their heavy territory guarding instincts, these dogs do not welcome other dogs into their zone, thus making it necessary to expose them to different people and animals, as well as different sights and sounds from their early puppyhood.

These pets get well along with other pets if raised with them as they are very protective but not aggressive. The only time there may be a problem is when a puppy inherits two totally opposite character trait (such as submissive friendly nature, combined with a strong guarding instinct). Pups like this can behave unpredictably due to their conflicting subconscious instincts that confuse both the dog and other people. However, their temperament may depend upon some other factor(s). The temperament of the dog is highly influenced by the owner and the surroundings.

Exercise

Because Labrotties are active dogs, the owner should take them on a daily walk. Also, find other ways for them to exercise. If the owner has a safe and enclosed backyard, allow it to run around and play with toys. The owner can also try the option of interactive games off-leash. Frequent trips to the dog parks can also give the breed the chance to play with other dogs, provided that the dog has proper socialization training. It mostly remains inactive indoors but will appreciate a small play session within the fenced-in area. Over-exercising this breed can cause the double coat to become over-heated and damage the fur.

Grooming

The grooming required for the Labrottie will vary on the coat it inherits from its parent breeds. Labradors typically shed heavily while Rottweilers shed very little. Dogs of the hybrid will have short to medium length coat that will shed occasionally. Depending on the coat, brushing every other day may be necessary. A firm bristled brush will help to remove loose hair as well as allow the distribution of skin oils. Bathing once a month and nails trimmed as needed is the best regular care that keeps the dog healthy. Moreover, brush its teeth several times a week to maintain a good dental health. Lastly, make sure to clean their ears regularly.

Health Problems

There are health issues it can inherit from its parent. These include Joint Dysplasia, Pano, Allergies, Ear Infections, Cold Tail, Acute Moist Dermatitis, Heart Problems, Bone Cancer, Bloat, Hypothyroidism, OCD, Eye Problems, Epilepsy, and Myopathy. As they may suffer from bloating, the owner should not feed the dog a single large meal or encourage it to eat rapidly. Moreover, avoid rigorous exercises after a meal. Occasional tests for their well-being include eye, hip, and elbow tests.

Training

Overall, the Labrottie may not be the best option for first-time dog owners. If the owner is trained to handle canines, Labrottie isn’t hard to work with. This breed picks up things pretty quickly. It is best to have a positive approach while teaching the Labrottie. Due to their loyal and docile nature, Labrotties are easy to train.

Feeding

Give high-quality dog food packed with vital nutrients and natural ingredients. 4-5 cups of dry foods split into multiple feedings is advised. If the owner is planning to give high quality canned food, he should reduce the amount of dry food. This will help to prevent unwanted weight gain especially since this breed loves to eat. A dry kibble is also a great option and the owner can also give bones and raw meat to the dog.

I have a labrottie and his name is "Grim". He is much more energetic. Grim likes to chasing birds and monkeys. Labrotties can be recommended as house pets as well as hunters.
