Temperament & Personality

Pomeranian Chihuahua mix puppies soon become an integral part of the family because of their affectionate and kind personality. But, the tricky part is that at times these dogs can become stubborn and disobedient. The Pomchi loves attention and will always move around its owner.

They like to cuddle up and lick the humans which can be irritating at times. They might panic and start barking if left alone for an extended period. The Pomchi will be an excellent dog for the apartment if they get proper training since their puppy stage.

Exercise

Pomchi full grown dogs are natural movers and do not need a regular activity. They do need regular fresh air.

Grooming

This breed is an average shedder, and daily brushing is needed to prevent matting. The owner should visit a pet groomer every two or three months to keep the dog’s coat well trimmed. Check the ears frequently to avoid inflammation in them. Use a mild dog shampoo for them to prevent an allergic reaction. These dogs are prone to teeth problems so brushing their teeth once a week will maintain their oral health.

Health Problems

They do suffer from some significant health issues like the Patellar Luxation, Epilepsy, Hypoglycemia, and Legg-calve Perthes disease. Some minor concerns are Allergies and Shivering. Occasional tests for them are an X-ray examination, CT scan, Urinalysis, Complete blood count, Full physical examination, Myringotomy, Neurological tests, and an ACTH test.

Training

They need training and socialization as early as in their 12th week. Sometimes these dogs will become authoritative and will try to rule over the household. In that case, a set of firm rules and positive exercises are needed to control this kind of tendency.

A regular play session with other dogs in the dog park will help to build a healthy and mentally stable dog. They need a big open yard to run freely being unleashed. They are quick learners and responds well to challenging exercises.
