Cavachon

History

 

Cavachon is a mix of Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Gleneden Kennels from Berryville in the United States of America claims to be the 1st breeders of this dog in the year 1996. Presently this breed as gone popular across the world as a hunting and companion dog. There is limited information about the appearance of these dogs as they are the 1st generation crosses. Although their size is predictable, traits differ from one dog to the other. But the good thing is that most of these turn out to be a great spirited dog.

Temperament & Personality

These are tolerant, loving and gentle dogs who mingle with people very quickly. They don’t have the attitude of guard dogs, so they are comfortable even with strangers. Because of their small size and minimal exercise requirements, Cavachons are perfect for condo life.

Care

Exercise

Cavachon full grown or puppies are energetic and require moderate activities regularly to stay healthy. Games like fetch and daily walks are essential for them. The noticeable feature about them is that they require attention from their owner, unlike other dogs. They create strong bonds with their family due to their laid back and friendly attitude.

Grooming

These dogs are hypoallergenic and they need to be trimmed and brushed on a regular basis. Keeping them clean and dry is also necessary as ignorance of hygiene will give rise to infections

Health Problems

Ear infections, eye ulcerations, heart murmurs, flea allergies and dry eyes are common issues in Cavachons.

Training

This breed is intelligent and smart, so they pick up socialization and obedience skills very quickly right from puppyhood.

 

Feeding

Quality dog food divided into two small meals will be enough for their health because they are light eaters.
