History

The Corkie is a designer dog that originated in the year 2000 by crossing the Yorkshire terrier and the Cocker Spaniel. Since it was bred recently, not much is known about its history.

Temperament & Personality

Spaniel terrier mix dogs are affectionate, playful, energetic and love to be with family members all day long. They are more comfortable with older children but can go along with other members and pets as well. Their sweet nature attracts every person and it becomes an integral part of the family. They are not only useful as a pet but can be an excellent watchdog as well.

Care

Exercise

The energy level of this dog is similar to its parents, but the amount of activity differs from one another. Take them for 15 minutes walk twice a day and even include play time in their sessions to keep them healthy and happy.

Grooming

The grooming includes brushing thrice a week to avoid dead hairs, clipping its nails and hair frequently, clean its teeth two to three times a week and bathing when necessary.

Health Problems

Because it is a hybrid dog, it does not possess any specific health issues, but it is capable of getting some concerns from its genes like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, hypothyroidism, reverse sneezing, epilepsy, collapsed trachea and autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

Training

Like its parent, Cocker Spaniel is eager to please, so it is easily trainable with the method of rewarding. They require consistent and positive approaching trainer who has skills and a lot of experience. Socialization at an early stage with children and other pets can help them to be well-mannered.

Feeding

Provide the dog with the right amount of nutrition and protein to keep them energized and healthy. Their food quantity should be according to their size, age, health, and metabolism.
