Temperament & Personality

The Doxie is a well-behaved and affectionate dog which loves to be around its family. They blend well with children and other animals with constant supervision. Their strong sense of smell helps them in being excellent watchdogs, and these Doxles can react quickly in times of danger. Digging is an inherited instinct, and the owner should keep an eye out for it. With all amenities available, these animals can live happily in an apartment.

The Doxie is a highly energetic dog requiring vigorous workouts daily. Running and play sessions in a dog park is necessary. If there is access to a fenced yard, let it dig around and run without a leash. It loves to play sports like fetch which provide it adequate mental and physical stimulus.

Doxles shed moderately, brush their skin at least two times every week. Bathe after a fortnight or a month, and clean its eyes and ears weekly. Brushing their teeth once a week will be enough.

Health Problems

This is a healthy breed with no significant health issues reported as of now. Look for the dog’s and the parents’ health clearances before buying the animal.

Although this is an intelligent dog, it may show signs of stubbornness. Experienced owners should be consistent and act as their leader. Start the training right from puppyhood and teach them basic obedience and socialization skills. Help it in associating with other animals and kids. Also, make sure it has good company to curb its behavior problems.
