History

The Miniature English Bulldog has its origin in England born to registered English parents. The modern MEB has undergone down-scale breeding of the English Bulldog after the game of Bull-baiting was banned. According to records, the rearing started after the year 1980.

Temperament & Personality

Mini Bulldog are exceptionally loyal and affectionate to others with shades of extroverts. Sometimes the Minis can become hard to tame as they may become headstrong and determined. In that case, the owner should have patience in training the dog, and in few months the dog will become a kind, devoted animal. Some MEB’s love the pool and rubbing their bellies give them immense pleasure while some of them are fond of long walks and the skateboards.

Teacup English bulldog full grown loves human company and craves for constant attention. They can be aggressive and intolerant with strange dogs but are good with other family pets. Also, they get along well with the children and teenagers. The Minis may have some whacky habits like dribbling a little after drinking and snoring while sleeping. When being bullheaded and determined, they can be persistent.

A positive trait which does not go with their small stature is that the dog does not give up easily. This breed can be dominating and have strong leadership qualities. Hence, the owner needs to understand this alpha canine behavior to raise a bulldog properly. When the Bulldogs are young, they are full of energy, but as they grow old, they slow down.

Care

Exercise

Some adult Miniature English Bulldogs may ignore activities, but others are full of energy. All the MEB’s need daily long walks to boost their primary canine instinct to walk and most importantly to promote their bone strength and overall health. Fit and healthy Bulldogs move quickly in a short period. Their exercise needs are uncomplicated and will adapt to the activity level of the family.

 

Grooming

The dog is ideal for the modern apartment lifestyle. The face has wrinkly folds which must be cleaned on a daily basis by a dampen cloth and the coat should be wiped with a dry cloth. The owner should comb the layer with a firm brush as the shedding is minimal. Bathe only when needed and clean the teeth with a medically approved toothpaste.

Health Problems

The Miniature English Bulldogs may have numerous health concerns. Several genetic disorders are becoming common nowadays due to selective breeding and excessive inbreeding. Different cardiovascular diseases the Bulldogs are known to suffer from:

  1. Ventricular septal defect
  2. Tetralogy of Fallot
  3. Aortic stenosis
  4. Pulmonic stenosis

Dermatological Issues are:

  1. 1.Furunculosis.
  2. 2.Pododermatitis

They may also suffer from other ailments like Canine follicular dysplasia, Hypothyroidism, Cleft palate Hip dysplasia, Genetic dwarfism, Congenital elbow luxation, Ununited anconeal process, etc.

Training

The owner should teach the pups obedience and socialization skills and prevent it from being stubborn and bossy. The Miniature English Bulldogs are sensitive to the tone of its handler ’s voice, making training them easy. They are intelligent and teaching them simple tasks are unstressful.

Feeding

The Mini Bulldog puppies need feeding 2-3 times a day. The adult dog needs high-quality dog regularly. The owner should avoid overfeeding the dog.
