History
The Picardy Spaniel breed is one of the oldest continental Spaniel breeds originated before the French revolution. This breed used to be a hunting breed and gun dogs. This breed crossed with many British hunting dogs in the 19th century that led to the change in the appearance and the existing breed’s purpose that leads to the development of his cousin, the Blue Picardy Spaniel. This type of race recognized by various kennel club and associations like North American Kennel Club, American Rare Breed Association, United Kennel Club, Federation Cynologique Internationale and Continental Kennel Club.
Varieties
There are various Spaniel type breeds like Large Munsterlander and Drentse Patrijshond which are of larger sizes. The smaller races are Drentse which measures 55-65 cm and the Munsterlander measures 58-64 cm.
Temperament & Personality
Picardy Spaniel breeds are gentle and intelligent who are incredibly loyal towards their masters and also bonds well with the family members. They are a perfect playmate for kids, who gets well with other pets and dogs present in the house. In France, they are still presently used to hunt pheasants and snipes in swamps and wooded region.
