History
The Sharp Eagle is a cross between the Chinese Shar-Pei and the Beagle. They mostly incline towards their Chinese Shar-Pei parents and are mediumly built with facial and shoulder folds. Each dog has a pair of floppy ears with relatively round eyes. They do not grow more than a foot and have a square-shaped muzzle.
Temperament & Personality
The Sharp Eagle is the result of a deliberate attempt to create a cross with an exceptional prey drive. These creatures are independent and powerful with a strong predatory instinct. Their inherited personality and temperament makes them less prone to behavioral issues such as separation anxiety.
The Sharp Eagles can also be a great apartment dog. However their predatory instincts should be appropriately controlled by the owner. They can be friendly and outgoing like its Beagle parents, but may also be highly aggressive if it leans more towards the Chinese Shar-Pei parent. Because of their dominant prey drive, these dogs should be kept inside the fenced yard under the supervision of the owner.
Exercise
It will be happy if the owner takes it for a couple of long walks in a day. The owner can keep it unleashed in the yard area where it can play on its own. The Sharp Eagle tends to chase scents, thus should never be unleashed outside the house. It will love a regular trip to the dog park in the evening hours, where it can have some play session with other dogs. If deprived of proper stimulation, the dog can become restless and disobedient.
Grooming
No matter what kind of a coat the Sharpeagle inherits, grooming and maintenance is much more comfortable. Most of the sharp eagle dogs don’t need frequent bathing, but if the dog inherits high curiosity from the Beagle parent, then it might need frequent bathing as it will continuously get itself muddy and dirty.
Accumulation of moisture and debris on the coat after bathing can lead to the development of mildew, mold and even infections so the owner should make sure that the dog is well-cleaned and dried after bathing. Weekly brushing with a slicker brush and a grooming glove will keep shedding under control.
Health Problems
The SharpEagles can suffer from various health problems such as Pulmonic Stenosis, Canine Hip dysplasia, Demodectic Mange, Cataracts, Retinal dysplasia, Megaesophagus, Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy, Skin Fold Dermatitis, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Invertebral disc Disease, Mitral Valve Disease, Cerebral Abiotrophy, and Cherry eyes.
Occasional tests such as Eye examination, Skin Evaluation, Radiographic imaging, and Myelography can prevent the dog from getting various type of diseases.
Training
These smart and quick learners pick up training very fast. The owner should remember the fact that the Sharp Eagles are naturally stubborn and aggressive. Thus early obedience training for the small pups is a must for this breed. Teach the dog socialization, crate, and housebreaking training as early as possible. Frequent food rewards and praises will accelerate the training process.
Feeding
A dog diet with all the essential nutrients such as protein, minerals, and vitamins are crucial to maintaining the dog ’s health.
