Temperament & Personality
Shih poo puppies are obedient, calm and has an even temper. They are not usual barkers but have a louder voice than the Shih Tzus. This tiny sized dog is keen on pleasing its owners and have an amiable character. They do well with children and other pets. They are smart and brilliant which makes them very easy to train. This breed is affectionate, loving and likes to spend quality time with its family members. It is an ideal companion dog for the older adults. They are also shy towards unknown people and are not significant watchdogs.
Shitzu poodle mix dogs require a moderate amount of activity, but it can vary depending on the traits it inherits from its parents. These small dogs will enjoy short walks or jog regularly with an ample of play time in a yard. It needs a companion every time as it doesn’t like to stay alone and suffers anxiety. They can play indoors with toys or with their owners for extra activity. They will also love to attend agility and obedience classes, it will not only keep the dog active but will also allow it to apply its mind. Additionally, puzzle games will also help the dog to get mental stimulation.
Shih tzu poodle mix require high maintenance as they have curly to wavy hair which needs brushing every day to get rid of dirt and dead hairs. Infrequent brushing will make the coat dull and tangled. Its hindquarters require particular attention underneath its shoulders and behind its ears. The dog is an average shedder and does not shed much. They are easy to train as they have a pleasing attitude. Socializing them from their puppy days will restrict their shy nature, and make them tolerant towards other pets in the house. Like other small dogs, they also get adamant sometimes, hence, a firm trainer is crucial to train this dog. These dogs do not acknowledge harsh training methods. Therefore positive training methods like praises and hugs will make the dog learn tricks faster.
Its eating habits and calorie intake require supervision as it is an overeater. Raw meat diet or 1 cup of commercial dry dog food will be sufficient for the dog. Kibble is good for this breed, as they develop teeth issues and can suffer from tooth decay. Kibble will prevent bad breath and gum infections.
