History
Affenhuahua is a hybrid of an Affenpinscher and a Chihuahua. Because they are hybrid dogs, not much is known about them. They have started to gain popularity after their official recognition in 2009.
Temperament & Personality
Affenhuahuas love being around people who give them love and affection. They are very playful and intelligent dogs but can be stubborn at times. They bond well with the owner and with proper socialization and obedience training, learns to behave correctly.
Care
Exercise
This affenpinscher mix is an active dog and does not require much training to stay healthy. Indoor games will be sufficient for it as it is suited for an apartment life. However, taking it outside at least once a day would be good to provide it the required stimulation. These dogs are prone to small dog syndrome, so a leash should be used to handle them.
Grooming
The pet doesn't have high maintenance needs, particularly the ones having a small coat. As it sheds low, brushing the coat twice a week will be enough. Bathe it only when it is dirty using a good quality dog shampoo. Regularly check ears for infection and clip off the nails using the right tool.
Health Problems
Because it is a new crossbreed, there has been no records of genetic diseases. But it may acquire disorders like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, heart problems, nervousness, collapsed trachea and Legg-Perthes disease.
Training
Affenhuahuas are comfortable to train but not the quickest learners. Use positive methods, praise it, motivate it by offering snacks as treats. Because it is a sensitive dog, shouting and punishments will make them upset and slow down the training process. With puppies, house training can be tricky. The dog requires special assistance when it comes to socialization with other pets and children.
Feeding
For their nutritional needs, ¼ to ½ cup of dry dog food will be adequate. Be wary of overfeeding your dog as it might make it obese and also make sure you never compromise with the food quality.
