History

Bassugg is a cross between Basset Hound and Pug. They have a sturdy yet cute look and a very friendly by nature. It borrows the large round head from the pug marked with facial wrinkles around their eyes, back, and neck. The floppy ears that hang down beside its cheeks are borrowed from the bound parent. It also has a long tail along with a stout yet small body and hardy legs.

Temperament & Personality

Bassugg loves to cuddle and please its owner so it can get a little mischievous when left alone. It has a laidback, friendly and gentle attitude which makes it the perfect dog for first-time owners. It also behaves well with other dogs and children. They don’t bark too much, so they are good for apartment life also.

Exercise

An average amount of exercise daily will be enough for the Bassugg. But if it's getting lazy then try introducing play sessions and extra activities. It is not necessary to keep the dog leashed inside a closed yard. Dog park visits can help in its socialization.

Grooming

Bassuggs are average shredders. Brush their coat four to five times a week and the owners should be wary of loose strands of hair around their home. Ear and eyes should be weekly checked and cleaned. Nails should be clipped only by a vet.

Health Problems

Popular health issues include obesity and genetic problems. Go through the dog’s parents’ health history.

Training

These dogs are intelligent and ready to please, so they pick up training very quickly. Housebreaking, crate training, obedience training and socialization by helping them mix with other pets and kids, is comfortable when they are puppies and will help them in the future. Begin training soon after bringing it home and the owner should act as the pack leader. Use positive methods such as treating with snacks, tapping its back and praising it.

Feeding

A good quality dog food will provide the required nourishment if the owner does not cook the dog’s diet. The owner should give it enough protein and nutrients the dog needs according to its size, age and metabolism.
