History

The origin of Bea-Tzu is still unknown because it is a cross between a Beagle and a Shih-Tzu.

Temperament & Personality

The Bea-Tzu loves to get the attention of its owner. They consider the family as their pack and love to be with them. They are both playful and protective. These dogs mix well with children and animals if raised with them. Thus these characteristics make them an ideal pet for homes with children.

Care

Exercise

This is a relatively active dog. A couple of walks a day and play sessions will provide the required amount of activity. Running around in a dog park or a yard and indoor games offer necessary exercises can be helpful too. Do not use a leash while they are playing but make sure the area is fenced.

Grooming

A Bea-Tzu has moderate grooming needs and the coat needs daily brushing and occasional visits to a groomer. Trimming the hair on the face is important as they usually grow long over a period of time. Most importantly. bathe it only when its necessary and use dog shampoo only. Their nails have to be clipped by a vet or by using a proper tool. Lastly, brush the teeth twice a week and check the ears for infections on a weekly basis.

Health Problems

These dogs are prone to genetic diseases like skin problems, eye complications, epilepsy, CBS, patellar luxation, kidney problems and bladder issues, etc.

Training

It can be difficult to train owing to its stubbornness. Patient and firm guidance help in better socialization and obedience training of the puppy. Avoid punishments and scolding, keep motivating it and use snacks as incentives. Consult a professional trainer in case of queries or visit a doggy school. With appropriate training, the small dog syndrome will be avoided.

Feeding

Provide good quality dry dog food to the Bea-Tzu two times daily. Refer an expert to consider the quantity of food for this small dog. Being active and energetic, nutrition should never be compromised.
