History

Blue Lacy is named after the Lacy brothers of Texas, who developed them in the 19^th century for rounding up wild hogs. They started with a Greyhound and a wolf then grew the resulting puppies into all-around working dogs that had high speed and strived to work.

Temperament & Personality

Lacy dogs are intelligent and versatile as they were bred to do all sorts of tasks. They dedicate themselves to guarding livestock and taking part in retrieving games without training no matter how difficult it might be. These dogs are subtle to harsh behavior and are easy to take care. It can be instructed to deal appropriately with children and other pets right from puppyhood. Being excellent guard dogs so their behavior with unknown people might be a matter of concern.

Exercise

Long walks and play sessions should be regular for energetic blue lacy puppies. Lacy dogs are comfortable in ranches and do not adjust to an apartment life. Inadequate physical activities will have destructive effects on them.

Grooming

Their coat is smooth and short so weekly brushing to remove dead hair will be sufficient. Bathing should be done when they are filthy and primary measures include cleaning ears and eyes should be maintained.

Health Problems

They are healthy breed and do not duffer from health problems. Common issues are allergies, skin issues and a rare disease called color dilution alopecia.

Training

Although they are fast learners, they tend to get stubborn so first-time dog owners should not choose a Blue Lacy. These dogs require a consistent owner who would use positive methods for training. They should be socialized from an early age so that it behaves well with unknown people. Obedience training is also necessary to prevent it from becoming dominant.
