CARLIN PINSCHER

History

Carlin Pinscher’s original name was Pug-Pin which originated in 1998 by crossing the Pug and the Miniature Pinscher. Its history starts from the year 1992 when two breeders named Isabeau Morgan and Kawika Beunafe saw three miniature Rottweiler puppies developed from breeding the above two breeds. They gave one of them called Snooz, to their friend Grant Milionta and later on, he and some of his friends started breeding a set of new dogs and named it Carlin Pinscher.

Temperament and Personality

The breed is calm, pleasant and sweet, but retains some of the instinct behaviors of Pinschers. They have the characteristics of playfulness, charm, stability, elegance, outgoing and loving personality. Their hunting nature instigates them to discover something secret or hidden. However, they tend to seek the attention of everyone in the family, often displaying clownish character. Regarding playing with young children, they should be supervised because they can get aggressive if it comes to their personal space.

It is a moderately active dog that does not require over work out. They are perfect for apartment life and can go well without any yard. Aa daily walk is necessary to overcome its canine instincts of walking and taking them to dog parks sometimes keeps it mentally fit and happy. If they are left to play and run in a yard, make sure that the area is fenced high to avoid their effort to escape and explore.

Grooming

The dog has smooth and short hair which is easy to groom which involves brushing two to three times a week with a mitt or soft-bristled brush. Bathing is essential only when it is dirty or smelly while cleaning its teeth frequently removes bad breath and periodontal disease. Lastly, checking its ears on a monthly basis avoids infections.

Health Problems

Since it is a developing breed, its health concerns are still unknown. But like other breeds, it can face problems like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, Leggs-Perthes Disease, progressive retinal atrophy, corneal ulcer, and skin diseases.

Training

The dog requires first crate and obedience training to become well-mannered and respectful one. The trainer should be experienced, firm, consistent and gentle and should imply a positive method of teaching.

Feeding

Serve the pet with good quality dry dog food of about 1 to 1.5 cups every day. However, the proper balance of carbohydrates, fats, protein, minerals, and nutrition is essential in their diet.
