History

The Cheagle is a beagle chihuahua mix. Since it is a hybrid, there is not much information about its origin. It is a small designer breed characterized by its cute looks and broad head with a snout resembling that of the Chihuahua breed. It also might have long, dark brown floppy ears coupled with rounded eyes and a curly tail. The erect ears, as well as the sickle-shaped tails, straighten when the dog is excited or alert. Generally high on energy, they are a lovable creature that is popular for its pleasing personality.

Temperament & Personality

The Cheagle puppies exhibits a blend of the personalities of its parents. They are outgoing, playful and very excited. It gets along well with older children as younger ones can hurt the dog. Although it is a quiet dog, it needs proper training before its barking becomes a problem. They can act aggressively in front of other dogs, so socialization is necessary. They like playing games and running around a yard when they have the chance.

Exercise

Because it is a very active and energetic breed, they must have daily activities to keep the energy in check. Half an hour of walking and playing sessions must be a part of their regular schedule. They follow scents so make sure to leash them. Provide sufficient exercise to avoid the growth of destructive behaviors like chewing and barking.

Grooming

A Cheagle’s short coat is easy to brush, but it sheds moderately. Hence, brush their skin 2-4 times a week to keep it healthy. Bath it only with a dog shampoo when it is dirty. Eyes and ears should be wiped and checked for infection on a weekly basis. Visit a groomer to clip their nails when they become long.

Health Problems

Major problems are patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, low blood sugar, heart and eye problems. Look for the health clearances of its parents before buying the dog.

Training

A Cheagle may suffer from small dog syndrome owing to its small size and hyperactive nature. They need a consistent and firm owner that acts as their leader. Positive methods, treats, and praises will help in training it quickly. House training this breed is tough, so start it from a young age. Since they are independent and behave violently, it is essential to teach them socialization.

Feeding

Give the Cheagle the dog food specially made for the small-sized breed. The metabolism of these dogs is fast and this diet will provide them with the required nutrients.
