History
Since the Chug dog is a hybrid only a little is mentioned about its history. It is Chihuahua Pug mix and is unique and differs from other designer breeds as it is not influenced by the ancestors of the Poodle.
Temperament & Personality
Its behavior may differ due to its parents but a majority of these are an excellent family dog. They are fun loving and love to grab everyone’s attention making it suitable for kids as well as other pets. Their stubborn nature can make training a little tricky, so early socialization with visitors is essential.
Exercise
The Chug puppies require a moderate amount of activity every day i.e. a 30-minute walk daily. The amount of exercise also depends upon the traits of Chihuahua they have inherited. The ones with more energy require a higher amount of activity. If they do not get an adequate amount of exercise, they might develop ‘Little Dog Syndrome.’
Grooming
For both types of hair, frequent brushing is required to prevent dead hairs and bathing is not necessary, so just use a damp cloth to clean its wrinkles. Other things include brushing of teeth, checking of ears and trimming of nails to avoid any problems.
Health Problems
As the Chugs are a healthy breed, they do not have any specific health concerns but can be affected by some problems like hip dysplasia, eye problems, patellar luxation, respiratory difficulty, and hypoglycemia.
Training
Being an intelligent breed, they respond to training quickly, but their stubborn nature can make it difficult. Harsh tones and harmful methods can make them more resistant, so it is better to use positive reinforcement with reward-based learning.
Feeding
Provide them with ¾ to 1½ cups of good quality dry dog food every day split into at least two meals. Their diet should contain meat as a primary ingredient and should be balanced according to its metabolism.
