History

Dameranians, a mix of the Dashchund and the Poodle, are adept in herding, military work, sighting, and racing. Its origin date back to the 1900s, and it has since gained recognition from numerous organizations.

Temperament & Personality

Pomweenies are very close to their family and stay loyal to them. Due to this attribute, they might face separation anxiety. It loves to be with children and enjoys playing with them. Their small size might make them a target for other animals, so don’t leave them outside alone. These dogs do not adjust well to extreme temperatures and need a controlled environment. Even though they are quite friendly, there remains a tendency to bark at unknown people, which makes them useful as watchdogs.

Exercise

Daily walks and mild play sessions provide adequate stimulation to Dameranians. Because of their small size, they adjust well to apartment life. To keep the dog’s chasing and hunting instinct in check, include activities in their routine which utilize their talents.

Grooming

The smooth coat needs brushing, 3-4 times every week. Clean and wipe the eyes and ears to prevent infections. Occasional bathing will be fine, but only with dog shampoo. Visit a professional groomer to clip their nails safely.

Health Problems

This is a relatively healthy dog, as no breed-specific complications are known. But it can inherit some disorders like collapsed trachea, patellar luxation, etc. Seek the parent’s health clearances from the breeder to get an idea about the possible diseases.

Training

The owner should act as the leader of the pact to guide the Dameranian. Use only positive techniques like praises and treats to help them grow. Keep toys and puzzles near them before leaving them; this will make them busy and assist in avoiding separation anxiety. There can be behavior issues so tie a leash to control them. Obedience and socialization skills will help them blend with others.
