History

Doberman Shepherd is a hybrid of the Doberman Pinscher and the German Shepherd. The aim of its breeders was to develop an attractive and intelligent watchdog. Not information regarding its origin is available, but it has official recognition from the DRA.

Temperament & Personality

Famous as a guard dog, Doberman Shepherds are loyal to their masters, and there strong will and cleverness is something to reckon. They can get headstrong which is why socialization is necessary before exposing them to children and other animals. In spite of this stubborn behavior, many people maintain that it is an affectionate dog. It enjoys the company of its loved ones and might suffer from separation anxiety if left alone. It needs a controlled atmosphere during extreme temperatures.

Exercise

Being idle will have a negative impact on these dogs. Vigorous activities are essential to keep up with their high-energy requirements. Regular play sessions and running will provide it mental and physical stimulation.

Grooming

Doberman Shepherds have low grooming needs. Brushing at least thrice a week will maintain their skin. Maintain its hygiene by cleaning its teeth, clipping the long nails and wiping its ears.

Health Problems

Other than acquired disorders, like allergies and bone dysplasia, this dog has no other significant issues. Ask for the parents’ health clearances from the breeder while buying the animal.

Training

Use positive techniques like praises and treats to ensure that the dog enjoys the process. Teach them basic obedience commands right from puppyhood. Socialization skills are necessary to help them mingle with others and curb the aggression. To overcome their separation anxiety, leave them alone for a short time on a daily basis and slowly increase the duration by monitoring the progress.

Feeding

High-quality dry dog food, 4-5 cups daily will ensure the Doberman Shepherd gets the essential nutrients. Check the amount of food as the dog tends to overeat.
