Doxiepoo, a mix of the Dachshund and the Poodle is a peculiar breed. They can have the Poodle’s curly skin with the Dachshund’s body or the other way round. Due to genetics, puppies in the litter may vary in terms of appearance, coat type, etc.

Temperament & Personality

This loyal and affectionate dog mingles well with kids of all ages and loves to be around people. Doxiepoos can inherit the negative aspects of Dachshund, like stubbornness and other destructive behavior. Although, with proper guidance, the owners can channelize this attitude making them an excellent watchdog.

Care

Exercise

The small size of Doxiepoos requires them to have only light activities. Daily walks and play sessions, either in a dog park or a fenced yard will be helpful. They can also live happily in an apartment if they get the adequate mental and physical stimulation.

Grooming

The maintenance of the dog depends on its coat. Since they are born with skin having a variety of attributes, there are some tips which are applicable to all types. Brushing their coat around two times a week and bathing only when they are dirty will keep the skin healthy. For trimming the hair, clipping the nails, etc., taking professional help will be a wise choice.

Health Problems

Like other crossbreeds, the Doxiepoo is a healthy breed. The only cause for concern is allergies and inherited health issues. To prevent them, look for the health clearances of the dog’s parents.

Training

Doxiepoos are quite intelligent and easy to train. Their headstrong behavior can be controlled by using positive methods like rewards and praises. Teach them the necessary obedience skills during puppyhood. Socialization is vital for these watchdogs so that they can blend properly with others.

Feeding

Protein-rich food is a must for this dog. Include raw meat, chicken, salmon, and lamb in their balanced diet. Olive oil enhances the taste of their food and is also good for their health.
