History

A hybrid of the Great Pyrenees and the Golden Retriever, the Golden Pyrenees is a large dog with an affectionate disposition. Even though they are recognized by many well-known organizations, the information about their origin is unknown.

Temperament & Personality

This is a gentle and warm breed which stays loyal to its master and forms a close bond with them. It has a habit of climbing on the owner’s lap whenever it wants to spend time with them. Golden Pyrenees is comfortable in the company of small children and other animals. It amicably greets strangers, a reason why it is not a good watchdog. They can show sign of stubbornness if not brought up well.

Exercise

This highly energetic dog demands vigorous activities like jogging and play sessions. Regular workouts will keep them in shape. They love games like fetching, and some of them even enjoy swimming. Running in an open area will release the excess energy in them.

Grooming

The Golden Pyrenees sheds a lot so make sure to remove the hair strands lying around the home. Brush them regularly, increase the frequency if they start shedding a lot. To remove the body odor, bathe them frequently with dog shampoo. Clip the long nails with the right tools and clean the ears to prevent infection.

Health Problems

Since there are no significant health complications reported of this breed, it can be considered a healthy dog. Keep an eye for any issues and visit a vet if there are any issues.

Training

A firm and consistent trainer is vital for the dog’s development. Teach them the basic obedience and socialization skills during puppyhood. To keep a check on its independent nature, act as their pack leader while using positive techniques. If there are any problems, visit a dog school or contact a professional.

Feeding

A high-quality dog food having all the necessary nutrients will be good for the Golden Pyr. The amount of food it eats depends on its size, age, and metabolism.
