Lab Pei is a new designer dog breed that emerged during the 21st century. It is Labrador retriever and the Chinese Shar-Pie mix. They have cute, sweet face with wrinkles and go well with children and other pets making them a fantastic addition to the family.
They give a warning bark to strangers rather than pouncing on them, which reflects their harmonious nature. Both its parent breeds make them an intelligent and loving dog that is easy to train.

Lab Pie inherits protective and loving character from its parents. However, this breed also has a coarse side. If the dog acquires complete features of the Chinese Shar-Pie, it can be independent, dominant, alert, lordly and brave at times.
Lab Pie protects its family like parents and is kind, loving, smart and emotional. The Shar Pie Lab mix goes well with children and other pets after undergoing positive training. It is a medium-sized dog and will require daily exercises that include jogs or long walks. They love to play in a yard where they can freely run and interact with other dogs. Being bulky makes it very important for the Lab to work out regularly in order to stay healthy.Moreover, this breed does not like water activities, therefore avoid swimming and water games.
The dog requires low maintenance and do not need excessive grooming. It is a high drooler, so cleaning them time to time is mandatory. Brushing them on a monthly basis will help to remove loose fur and debris from the skin.
If the dog has wrinkles and folds, the owner needs to clean them using a damp cloth on a daily basis to prevent bacteria and yeast build up. Giving bath is not mandatory unless it is incredibly filthy. Also, brushing their teeth is essential to prevent dental diseases and maintain healthy oral hygiene. Trim their nails when they overgrow, and clean their ears once a week to avoid collection of wax.
Primary health problems include Entropion, Elbow Dysplasia, Demodicosis, Canine Hip Dysplasia, Atopy Dermatitis, and Gastric Dilation Volvulus. Minor Concerns include Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Cataracts, Seborrhea.
Occasional Tests will consist of Skin Scarping, X-ray imaging, Optical Examination, Blood and Urine Analysis, Regular Full Physical Examination by a veterinarian will help the dog remain healthy.
Lab Pei possesses high learning power. As a result, they will quickly pick up the instructions of their masters. Only a few classes are needed for obedience and socialization training. A reward based training is best to keep the session exciting and can be offered in the form of pampering, cuddle, and snacks.
The dog is always high on energy and requires a healthy diet with excellent nutrition. It needs the same routine diet like other large sized dogs with same energy levels. 2.5 cups of dry dog food can also be given to the dog.
