History

Labradane is a result of a crossing Labrador Retrievers and the Great Dane. Size depends on the dominant parent breed. It is an active dog that loves socializing and is friendly with everyone in the family. They are large in size with noble and gentle nature.

Temperament & Personality

Great Dane Lab mix can be misunderstood as aggressive dog breed by its gigantic size. These dogs are loyal and good with an adult as well as children, strangers, other dogs, pets, etc. They are very close to their owner and their family. Labradane puppies seek love and care from their family. They behave lovingly with unknown people until they find something suspicious. Size of the dog can be a problem at times as being gigantic it can blow a small child. Thus children should be taught how to deal with these big dogs safely.

Exercise

Great Dane Lab mix is an energetic dog and in its puppy days, one should be careful about regular activities. While it grows, proper work out routine should be maintained. 30 minutes walk in the morning and evening coupled with some play time will keep the dog happy and healthy. It is not an apartment dog and requires a fenced yard to play.

Grooming

Labradane sheds slowly in the spring, and throughout the year it is a moderate shedder. Labradane requires brushing once a week, while during its shedding seasons it will require daily brushing to remove the loose hair. Ear cleaning should be done regularly as its floppy ears are the breeding ground for various infections. Tooth brushing thrice a week will protect the dog from tooth decay.

Health Problems

Great Dane Lab mix is a healthy dog, but with age few problems may arise. Elbow Dysplasia, Panosteitis, Canine Hip Dysplasia, and bloat are some of the diseases this dog may suffer from. Though with a regular checkup by a veterinarian can keep the dog in excellent condition.

Training

Labradane is very intelligent and is easy to train. Training sessions should be started at an early age and the trainer needs a strong personality to provide leadership and stay firm. Training sessions should be full of excitement, as they respond quickly.

Feeding

Being a giant dog, it requires high nutritious food. 4 to 6 cups of dry dog food will be adequate for this dog.
