History

The Peagle is a cross between the Beagle and the Pekingese. With a round head, innocent eyes, and a pair of soft ears, the Peagle is indeed a cutie. With their thin coat, charming and pleasing personality, these little wonders are becoming immensely popular as pets. They have an adorable lapdog appearance from the Beagle’s side as well as the intelligence from the Pekingese’s side.

Temperament & Personality

With an even temperament and a pleasing personality, Peagles make an ideal family pet. They bond well with the children, the elderlies, and even with other dogs. The Peagle is a curious dog which will sniff around the house in search of little insects, rodents, and other creatures. The owner should also make sure that the dog is handled gently because of its fragile nature. These dogs can growl if they see an unfamiliar face in the house.

Exercise

Peagles need a moderate amount of activities on a daily basis. A brisk walk or a short run regularly will keep the dog in good health. As this dog has a playful nature, the owner should provide it with a chew toy to keep it busy and entertained.

Grooming

As these dogs constantly shed, regular brushing will keep them clean and matt-free. Clean their eyes once in a week to avoid eye infection. Brushing the coat will also help in maintaining the natural oil balance of the skin.

Health Problems

Diseases like Patellar luxation, Hip dysplasia, Epilepsy, Hydrocephalus, Skin fold Dermatitis, Hypothyroidism, Brachycephalic syndrome, Cleft Palate, Beagle dwarfism, Cryptorchidism, and Intervertebral disc disease can affect the dog.

Training

Leash training is a must as these dogs have a natural chasing instinct. Peagles are smart and intelligent and are quite easy to train provided they have a trainer who is patient and consistent. Initial training in socialization and obedience will prevent them from becoming an ill-tempered and aggressive dog. Positive reinforcement technique is an excellent option to start the training with.

Feeding

The owner should give half to one cup of dry food on a daily basis to maintain its overall health. A variety of high nutrition foods can be given to these dogs. However, overeating needs to be avoided at all costs.
