History

Exact documented history of this breed is not known, but some believe that the Peekapoo is an inadvertent cross between the Poodle and the Pekingese dog. Soon this breed became a worldwide favorite because of their cute and innocent personality.

Also sub-classified as Miniature Peekapoos, Toy Peekapoos, and Teacup Peekapoos.
They carry the royal blood, meaning their parents, the Pekingese was only owned by the Emperors.
The Peekapoos are preferred by most allergy sufferers as this breed is exceptionally hypoallergenic.

Temperament & Personality

Teacup Peekapoos are not very comfortable with strangers and may bark at them. They are very protective of their family and will growl if they sense a possible threat. These mini dogs often bite humans and other animals but are extremely loyal to their family and the owner. They love the company of children and usually cuddles up on the lap of their loved ones.

Also being a companion dog, it might suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for a prolonged period. This breed also has a chewing habit and might chew little things in the house. This breed is an apartment dog which loves to stay most of the time indoors.

Exercise

Peekapoo puppies remain in motion throughout the day and needs a minimum amount of activity on a daily basis. The owner should take the malti dog for a small walk in the dog park which will be enough to keep them stay in good health. Playing sessions in an enclosed area with children or with small toys will be an excellent option.

Grooming

Peekapoos shed less to moderate, so brushing their coat once a week will keep the fur clean and glossy. An occasional trimming is enough as this breed grows hair very slowly. Also, clean their eyes to avoid dark patches around them.

Health Problems

The Peekapoos can develop issues like Progressive retinal atrophy, Legg-calve-Perthes disease, Hip dysplasia, and breathing issues.

Training

Training a Peekapoo needs tremendous patience, and the results come gradually. But, teaching a Peekapoo is fun as this little wonder is intelligent. Gentle and positive reinforcement techniques work in favor of this dog as harsh treatments won’t give the trainer the expected results. Treats and rewards will accelerate the training process and crate training can be helpful too.
