History

The Phalene was the earliest Papillon breed found in various paintings in the 16th century in the portraits of the wealthy Old Masters. In the 19th century, Papillons became much more famous and Phalenese were about to get extinct, but the connoisseur of this breed saved this race from vanishing. However, it has not got any recognition separately.

Temperament & Personality

It is a lapdog and fond of its master. It is an ideal watchdog as it is very much concerned about its property and security of its owner. with praises and attention, owners can teach them different tricks and commands. They are not very friendly with strangers. They feel uncomfortable in cold weathers but can easily withstand temperate climate.

Exercise

they are energetic and require regular long walks twice a day to keep manage their energy level in control. additionally, enough playtime in a fenced yard will also allow them to stay happy and contended. apart from physical exercise, mental exercise is also crucial. therefore, providing them puzzle toys will not only keep them busy but also mentally stimulated.

Grooming

Their single coat makes grooming easy, regular brushing will decrease shedding. Cleaning their ears at regular intervals will keep ear problems at bay. Brush them twice a week to keep up their oral health. Bath them when they are extremely filthy.

Health Problems

This breed has a long lifespan and is healthy. But it suffers some genetic health issues.

Patellar Luxation- This is a prevalent problem in the case of toy breed dogs. Here the kneecaps pop in and out of its place.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy- It leads to blindness.

Periodontal issues – When there is an irregular brushing of teeth, tarter gets build up that leads to inflammation of the gums and loss of tooth

Liver Shunt – Due to the presence of shunt in the liver the blood flow reduces or it redirects away from the river.

Training

The Phalene dog is intelligent so training them is a straightforward task. Their playfulness attitude helps them to learn the tricky games like tug of war, fetching the newspapers or the glasses, driving away the rates or mice from the garden. Basic command training and socialization is crucial to keep this breed under control.

Feeding

One-fourth of high quality kibbles daily divided into two meals is enough to keep this bread healthy.
