History

Rottle is a designer dog developed from a cross between Rottweiler and the Poodle. The history of creating this breed is not known, but both the parents have gained enormous popularity differently. The Rollweiler is believed to have its roots from the Roman Mastiffs which were used as guard dogs during World War I and II. On the other hand, Poodle is famous for its guarding and hunting skills. The breeder might have designed Rottle with the intention of making a working dog with combined characteristics of Poodle and Rottweiler.

Temperament & Personality

These dogs are very loyal and committed towards its family and are very protective towards them. Their playful, affectionate and harmonious nature makes them a perfect associate of kids. It also makes an excellent watchdog as it warns its owners about any intruder by barking. They are also highly energetic and require a massive amount of outdoor activities. Due to their hunting instinct, they might chase small pets and dogs around, but with proper socialization, this nature can be changed.

Exercise

The dog is highly energetic and requires heavy exercising every day. 30 -40 minutes’ walk or jog and 30 minutes playtime will be adequate. The time can be adjusted depending on the requirement and the age. It might get obese without proper exercise schedule as it tends to gain weight easily. Some of the favorite activities of Rottle include long walks, swimming, running, playing frisbee or flyball and hiking. Allowing them to play with other dogs in dogs park will help them to socialize and exercise at the same time.

Grooming

Rottles require particular attention due to its curly and thick coat. Brushing with a pin brush and comb three to four times a week will keep its coat clean and dirt free. Moreover, bathing the dog after few weeks will keep its coat healthy. To avoid skin irritations, mild dog shampoo is recommended by the veterinarian is advised. Ears will also need cleaning every week to prevent wax collection that can result in a painful ear infection. Toenails will require clipping when they overgrow, tooth brushing twice or thrice a week will keep up with its oral health. Rottle can be groomed professionally or by the owners at home.


Health Problems

Rottweiler poodle mix is a healthy breed, but few dogs might inherit few health problems faced by it parents.

Random Veteran checkups and occasional tests mentioned above will help the dog to stay fit.

Training

These dogs are easy to train as they have a high intelligence level. Proper socialization and obedience training will help the dog to establish a delightful nature. They are famous for picking up commands quickly. Therefore the trainer can make them learn various commands. Positive training methods like treats and praises from the owner will make the dog learn faster.

Feeding

4-5 cups of commercial dog food made for the medium and energetic breed with homemade nutrient meals will be adequate for the dog. Overfeeding might make them obese resulting in a lot of health problems. Therefore the owner should keep a check on the dog’s diet.
