History

The Scoodle is a cross between the Poodle and the Scottish Terrier. They are medium-size breed with a square-shaped body and medium sized legs. Its movement patterns match that of its Poodle parent.

Temperament & Personality

These dogs are known for their high-level of intelligence and a low-level disposition. They are best for both the singles and joint-families. They will be an excellent playmate for the kids and a great unique companion to the senior citizens. The dog is beaming with energy and will love to run around in the house.

As time passes, these dogs develop an unseen bond with their owner, and if left alone for a prolonged period, they may start barking randomly. Another consequence of prolonged ignorance by the owner is that these dogs might also become destructive and aloof.

Care

Exercise

This Scottish terrier and Poodle mix is full of energy which needs to be appropriately channeled through regular activity sessions such as a short walk or a game of frisbee. The owner must arrange for occasional play sessions with other dogs within the fenced-in yard.

Grooming

The coat of the Scoodle, which in most cases is medium in length requires a gentle brush once a week. Brushing the coat according to the advice given by a professional groomer will prevent the coat from having issues like matting and accumulation of dead hair.

If the dog’s coat resembles that of the Poodle, then it needs regular brushing. Just in case, if the Scoodle has a long-haired coat, then the owner should clip the excess hair once every two weeks.

Health problems

Some issues like Hypoglycaemia, Pancreatitis, Patellar Luxation, Lymphangiectasia, and liver shunts can affect the dog.

Training

Scoodles are known for having sharp minds, but can also get stubborn and vocal at times. Obedience and behavioral training should be imparted to the Scoodle puppies. These dogs need early socialization training to reduce the level of aggression from their side upon seeing other dogs.

A firm and patient trainer is necessary who can tactfully train the Scoodle with positive re-enforcement techniques. Training should always be complemented with praise and food rewards to accelerate the training process. Avoid harsh scoldings as they can make them more stubborn and disobedient.

Feeding

Dry food can cause tooth decay so their diet should consist of essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals to help the dog maintain its overall health.
