History

The Snorkie is a cross between the Miniature Schnauzer and the Yorkshire terrier. With a pair of black button-like eyes, a black nose, and small floppy ears, these dogs have a pleasant disposition which strikes everyone around. They are known for their physique of a Schnauzer and the face of a Yorkie.

Interesting Facts

  1. Snorkies are known to hunt down small rodents such as rats in the house, which is because their parent breeds were created to hunt down the rodents in the farmlands.
  2. Prefer dry and cold climates but not snow.

Varieties

Teacup Snorkies are even smaller than the regular ones.

Temperament & Personality

It will be an honor for their owners to live with these little royal animals. This breed can be an excellent show dog if they get proper training and guidance. With their playful and easy going nature, these dogs will be an excellent companion to small kids and other animals. They mostly bark during their play sessions or their exercise sessions. They are a good option for an apartment life because of their compact body.

Exercise

Snorkie puppies enjoy their exercise sessions, be it small walks or mingling with their playmates in the puppy kindergarten school. They will use the little space which the owner provides them to play with soft toys in an apartment.

Grooming

Only a little brushing twice or thrice a week will keep the dog clean and matt-free. To keep their coat fluffy and soft, the owner should use a Vet approved shampoo. Occasional clipping of their nails and frequently brushing their teeth will complete their grooming needs.

Health Problems

Schnauzer Yorkie mix puppies suffer from health issues like Cataracts, Diabetes, Pancreatitis, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, Allergies, and Bladder stones can affect the dog. Occasional tests such as Blood and urine analysis, Wellness check, and Abdominal Ultrasound will prevent the dog from various diseases.

Training

The owner should teach the breed some basic tricks and commands while it is still in its puppy stage. As these dogs are a natural companion to their human counterparts, socialization training in their early puppyhood will sharpen this trait.

Feeding

Premium quality dog food will be the best option for this breed. This dog needs its NuVet vitamins along with its well balanced grain-free diet.
