History

Torkie is a crossbreed. It is a mix between Yorkie (Yorkshire) and Toy Fox Terrier. Not much is known about their history.

Temperament & Personality

Torkies can quickly switch from a relaxing disposition to a passionate mode, it has inherited this trait from its parents, and this makes the dog an ideal choice for the urban people. Few dogs make a unique relationship with a single person of the family while others develop a bonding with the entire family. Like its parents, they face difficulty to mingle with other pets in the family due to their possessiveness for toys and owners. If it finds any suspicious activity in its territory, it informs its owner immediately by yapping this makes it an ideal watchdog. The dog can adjust to any living environment provided it gets a loving owner.

Exercise

Torkie is relatively energetic and does not require high activity schedule. The owner can take the dog for a short walk where it can get fresh air. Playtime in a fenced yard or dog’s park will aid the dog with physical as well as mental exercise. While taking the dog in a public places or dog’s park the owner should be cautious due to its miniature size. Playing with toys and balls indoors will also be appreciated by the dog. Regular play sessions will keep the dog happy.

Grooming

This dog does not require high maintenance, brushing them once with the slicker brush prevents tangles and knots. It is a minimum shedder and has silky and smooth fur. It does not require to trim or shave unless desired. Teeth brushing every twice or thrice will avert tartar collection and tooth decay. They have droopy ears which will retain moisture and wax and will need cleaning every week, to prevent painful ear infection. Nails will require trimming two to three times a week with a nail clipper to avoid cuts and scratches.

However, occasional tests mentioned above and random veteran checkups will keep the dog healthy and fit.

Training

Take the dog to public places to socialize them, it will help them to get acquainted with new people and pets. It is an intelligent dog and can learn house is breaking easily. They are bright and can learn tricks very quickly. Positive training methods like treats and hugs will help the dog to determine things faster.

Feeding

Commercial dry food ¼ to ½ cup or homemade food rich in nutrients will keep its energy level. Dividing meals into two halves will ensure correct digestion.
