History

Toxirn is a crossbreed. It was developed from a cross between Cairn Terrie and Chihuahua. It is one of the latest additions in the designer dog breeds group in last two to three decades.

Temperament & Personality

These are the best companion dogs one can have. They have both the traits of a loving dog as well as an active working dog. This breed is very devoted, responsive and sensitive. They suffer from depression if the owner behaves harshly. They are fearless and courageous enough to save its family in danger. It has inherited its hunting instincts from its parents and didn’t leave a chance to chase smaller pets.

Exercise

Toxirn is not very energetic and does not require a heavy exercising schedule. Regular walks with playtime in a fenced yard will be sufficient for the dog. Puzzle games will not only keep the dog busy, but it will also provide mental stimulation. The dog will like games like batch catching and Frisbee.

Grooming

This breed does not require high maintenance, periodic coat brushing will be adequate. Its fur does not grow, and therefore, it doesn’t require clipping. Its ears will retain moisture and wax, which will need cleaning every week, to prevent painful ear infection. Nails will require trimming two to three times a week with a nail clipper to maintain its length. Teeth brushing every twice or thrice will avert tartar collection and tooth decay. Bathing them once a month will keep it clean and eliminate the doggy smell.

Health Problems

Like other crossbreeds, it might inherit health problems from its parents.

Major Problems:

  • Perianal Fistulas
  • Entropion
  • Diabetes
  • Canine Hip Dysplasia
  • Craniomandibular Osteopathy (Lion Jaw)
  • Corneal Dystrophy von Willebrand's Disease

Minor Problems:

  • Hypothyroidism

Occasional Test:

  • Blood and Urine Tests
  • Eye Examination
  • Full Physical Examination regarding joint movement around the hip and kneecap DNA for VWD
  • Wellness Check

Occasional tests and random veteran checkups will keep the dog healthy and fit. However, one can ask the breeder about its parent's history of health problems before buying.

Training

These dogs are stubborn sometimes which makes training a bit difficult. However, introducing the dog to new puppies and unknown people will allow the dog to mix appropriately with them. One can take the dog to public places and parks to socialize them. They are selfish occasionally, and the owner should teach them to share their house with other pets. Obedience classes will train the dog to learn basic etiquette to live in a family and also to follow commands and orders. Positive training methods like treats and praises, it will make the dog learn things very quickly.

Feeding

It requires high quality commercial dry dog food. Foods like corn, wheat and soy should be avoided, as the dog is sometimes allergic to them. Additionally, foods with BHA and BHT preservatives should be ignored. Dry dog foods which include meat as a major constituent is suggested. This breed is prone to obesity and makes supervision crucial. ½ to 1 cups of commercial dry dog is sufficient to keep up with its regular nutrient requirements.

We recently adopted our little pup Toxirn, Lexi. We had no idea she was an official breed when we adopted her until we read this website. One of these pictures is a bang on copy of Lexi. Thank you for all the insights into our Lexi!
