History
The Woodle dog is a cross between the Weish Terrier and the Poodle and comes with the positive characteristics of both the parent breeds. Its parent, the Welsh Terrier originated in the country of Wales and the earliest reference goes back to the fourteenth century. Since the year 1885, the Welsh Terrier is a part of the American life.
On the other hand, Poodle according to some experts is a German breed. The Poodles come in three sizes. As a result, the Woodle dogs come in various sizes.
Temperament & Personality
The genes from both the parents create a breed which is worldwide famous for its positive and affectionate disposition. The Woodle will be a great companion to its owner and will always move around its owner to get his attention. Being a dog with a medium stature, they also make an excellent choice for the senior citizens. They can be a great apartment dog.
Woodle is also highly intelligent, and to please its owners will do anything from being a clown to learning tricks and tasks. The Woodle adjusts well with other dogs and even with a cat. Their friendly behavior makes them an excellent playmate for the small kids. They also have a protective instinct towards their family, and once they find someone suspicious, they will immediately bark and alert.
Exercise
Being a relatively active breed, the Woodle needs a moderate amount of daily activities to satiate its exercise needs. Frequent trips to the dog park will be an excellent idea, with fifteen to twenty minutes of regular running or a brisk walk. The owner can also play with the dog once in a while to maintain the human-dog bonding.
Grooming
Shedding is minimal, but the wrinkled skin of the dog needs brushing twice or thrice a week. They are prone to tangling of the hair, thus need entangling once in a week. Bathing them once a month will maintain the natural distribution of the oils throughout their entire body. The hair also needs trimming once every year, while other grooming and maintenance needs are as same as in the case of other small size breeds.
Health problems
The owner should give particular attention to the Recurring Medicals such as Vaccinations, Heartworm prevention, and Topical Flea/tick prevention. The Woodle dog may get health issues such as Hip dysplasia, Epilepsy, Von Willebrand's disease, Cushing’s Syndrome, Addison's Disease, Allergies, etc. Occasional tests include Blood tests, Knee joint tests, Hips, Liver ultrasound, X-rays, etc. It is also important to check their bone health regularly, especially in areas like hips and kneecap, Thyroid panel, etc.
Training
To suppress its negative tendencies, the trainer will have to make sure that the training continues as a regular process. Start the training in its early puppy stage, and make sure that the training does not become monotonous. The training if accelerated with praises and food rewards will shape up a dog into an obedient and faithful animal.
Feeding
The Woodle dog will need a premium quality dog food on a daily basis
