History

One of the most popular designer breeds, the Yorkie Russell or Jack Russell Terrier Yorkie mix has been obtained by crossing a Jack Russell Terrier with the Yorkshire terrier. A Yorkie Russell can be distinguished by its bushy tail, somewhat rotund muzzle, droopy ears, and dark eyes. Even a Jack Russell full-grown is small and dainty in size characterized by a long and soft coat making them an ideal lap dog.

Temperament & Personality

The Yorkie Russell is smart and fearless with an average level of intelligence. They tend to get well with kids and tots. On the flip side, they are unlikely to bark out to alert if and when it spies a stranger or intruder attempting to break in.

The dog is a gregarious breed that enjoys the company of humans and laps up all the attention that showers on it. If the pet feels neglected or shunned, it will try to attract your attention by whining or yelping and go back to its resting place if you continue to ignore it.

Care

Exercise

Being of a diminutive size, it doesn’t have to exercise vigorously to keep itself healthy and its instincts sharp. They’re quite energetic, and sprightly and keep themselves active by loitering in the house or the garden. They can be taken out while a person steps out for a jog or trot.

Grooming

The Yorkie Russell is one dog breed that doesn’t shed much hair so brushing at least thrice a week will be relevant. However, regular grooming will be necessary to maintain its furry coat. Cleaning of teeth 2-3 times a week and shampooing at times is mandatory.

Health Problems

The Yorkie Russell has the possibility of inheriting its parental health issues like a dental problem. Other problems may include patellar luxation, PSS, hypoglycemia, leg carve Perthes, deafness, eyes problem, collapsed trachea and reversed sneezing.

Training

They feel threatened in the presence of any significant dog, so it is necessary to train your pet to maintain a safe distance from them. Also, the dog tends to feel anxious or tensed if left alone for long periods. Hence provide them with different toys and puzzle games, especially of the chewing type so that it’s able to whet her intellect and brainpower.

Feeding

The dog should be provided with high energy diet food to stay healthy throughout its lifetime. Offer them dry food (½-1 cup) at least once every day and offer sufficient water to keep it well hydrated.
