History

The Yorkillon is a cross between the Yorkshire Terrier and the Papillon breed. It is comparatively a new breed, so there is limited information about its origin and history. Their Papillon parents got their name from the French word butterfly. Soon after their inception, Papillons became a favorite among Kings and Countrymen. The Yorkshire Terrier, on the other hand, is a loving and spunky breed and is a popular breed among dog lovers worldwide.

The Yorkillons have a silky coat, with delicate paws, and comes in a variety of colors. It should not be a surprise if the Yorkillon puppies come in various contrasting colors and patterns. With two ears which always point upwards when they are excited, these are more famous for their small and dark eyes, set beneath their distended eyebrows. The tail can either be straight up or a bit loopy at the tip area.

Interesting Facts

  • Some dogs tend to hide socks around the house, which may lead to a sudden comic situation.

Temperament & Personality

Owing to their highly energetic and sometimes mischievous character, these dogs are famous for their charming and bold disposition. Some are quite adventurous and intelligent and like to explore new things and areas. It will be readily available for any short adventure trek. They remain calm and happy when resting in their owner’s lap. Despite their little and compact size, these dogs are very protective of their family. They can also take up a fight against a big sized dog if provoked.

Care

Exercise

The Yorkillon is a reasonably active dog and will need an ample amount of playtime session indoors, or fifteen to twenty minutes of the daily walking session. They are naturally curious, and will constantly sniff around in the house to satiate their curiosity tendency. Visiting the dog park every week will be an excellent option, but the owner will have to make sure that the dog stays leashed.

Grooming

The breed demands a lot of attention and care when it comes to maintaining their grooming needs. Being a dog with seasonal shedding tendencies, these dogs need to be brushed every day. The owner only needs a pin brush to deal with the dog’s knotting issue. The owner has to check the dog’s ears once every week to ensure that the ears stay infection free.

Health Problems

The Yorkillon dog can suffer from health issues that include Hip dysplasia, Epilepsy, Von Willebrand's disease, Addison's Disease, Allergies, etc. Occasionally recommended tests are Blood tests, Knee joint tests, Hips, Liver ultrasound, X-rays, Bone Health exams, Thyroid panel, etc. Consider buying a soft cozy bed for your pooch as it would add comfort and prevent several joint related issues.

Training

To suppress the dog’s negative and undesired tendencies, the trainer will have to make sure that the training continues as a daily process. The owner should start the dog’s training in its early puppy stage, and ensure that the training does not become monotonous. The training if accelerated with praises and food rewards will shape up a dog into an obedient and faithful animal.

Feeding

The diet needs to include calorie-dense foods besides the decent amount of dry dog food (at least 1/4 to 1/2 cup a day)
