Exercise
Exercising them for about an hour will keep them calm and happy. Apart from running, walking and jogging they need playtime in a fenced yard. But make sure the yard is covered correctly as they have a chasing instinct, and if found a hole might escape easily. Also, providing them with puzzle toys will keep them busy and mentally active.
Grooming
Their double coats require proper grooming standards. Brushing their coat twice a week will prevent its hairs from entangling and matting. Bathe them with a vet prescribed shampoo when they get incredibly filthy. If it has a smooth coat use a damp cloth to wipe its coat to keep it clean.
Other grooming standards include brushing their teeth twice a week to avoid development of tartar and oral problems. They grow nails faster which can crack if not appropriately trimmed and hinder regular activities like walking, run, etc. However, cutting them twice a month will serve the purpose.
Dox puppies have droopy ears which are prone to infections due to water, dirt buildup and need regular checking to prevent infections and pain. Clean their ears with Vet prescribed ear solution. Clean their corner of the eyes with a damp cloth to remove tear stains.
Health Problems
Some Golden Dox puppies tend to suffer from some health problems like intervertebral disc disease, progressive retinal atrophy, epilepsy, allergies, bloating, bloating and diabetes. However, some occasional tests like cataracts, blood tests, X-ray, complete body check-up, and random vet checks can keep them healthy and reduce risk.
Training
Golden dox can become mischievous and stubborn, due to which a persistent and firm trainer is essential to train them. If appropriately motivated they will respond quickly to commands.
Make sure the puppy has positive experiences of unknown people. Otherwise, they will become wary or shy of them. Take them to different new places where it can meet new people, other dogs and variety of situations. They love to explore unknown places and new things. To make Dox puppies feel courageous in front of sociable visitors, ask them to bring treats or visit the pet often.
They tend to hunt and chase small animals. Hence it is essential to teach them commands to minimize their chasing attitude. Also, simple commands help to enhance the relationship between the pet and the owner. Make sure not to keep them off leash when in public. Allow them to take part in sports like flyball, tribal etc.
Feeding
They do well on a high-quality dry dog food 1-2 cups regularly. Owners can also keep them on a BARF diet that may include vegetables, bones, meat, fruits and raw foods. But it is essential to visit a dietician or a vet before opting for the food. Diet should be made depending upon the dog’s size, age, and activity level.
Some dogs tend to obese and also suffer from bloating, the owners should check their weight level and calorie consumption. If they gain weight minimize table scraps, treats, etc.
