A distinct class of large dogs identified by their round heads, short coats, muscular limbs, and broad chests, Molosser breeds has descended from Molossus dogs that originated in Ancient Greece. Molossers are oftentimes referred to as ‘catch dogs’ or mastiffs, though the latter is an erroneous allusion as the English Mastiff is referred to as a mastiff.
There are about 20 distinct Molosser types throughout the world including the English Mastiff, The Great Dane, Dogo Argentino, Guatemalan Dogo, and the Canary Mastiff.
