History

The Weshi (more commonly called Westie Tzu) is a small size crossbreed between the Shih Tzu and the West Highland White Terrier breed. These small wonders come with a pair of deep-dark eyes, two sharp ears, a black nose, a broad and muscular chest.

Temperament & Personality

Following the paw-steps of their parents, the Weshi dogs are naturally intolerant towards other dogs and animals. However, they can live in harmony with other animals if socialized early in their puppyhood. They can suffer from separation anxiety if the owner leaves them unattended for a prolonged period. It will accept the presence of other animals, but may itself take charge of the pack. The Weshie dog will bond well with small children if raised along with them.

Care

Exercise

These active dogs love to cuddle up, chew their soft toys and hop onto the furniture. A little walk on a daily basis will maintain the Weshis bones and muscles. Occasional play sessions for about half an hour will prevent boredom and develop negative aspects in the dog. To keep the dog mentally alert, the owner can give them some pet puzzles once in a  while.

Owing to their highly active lifestyles, these dogs need small play sessions in the form of games such as Hiding a toy squirrel, KONG Classic, Hide and slide puzzle, Bob a lot treat dispenser, IQ Treat balls, Dog twister, or the Mad Scientist game.

Grooming

They are easy to groom but needs explicitly regular brushing especially around the eyes, ears, and the feet. To maintain the dog’s shiny and glossy coat texture, the owner can use a wet cotton cloth to clean and rub the coat once a week. These dogs can have the typical doggy smell, which can be a headache for the owner. To eradicate this smell, the owner can bathe the dog every two weeks. For further advice, the owner can consult a Vet doctor.

Health Problems

Some health issues like the Wobbler syndrome, Bloating, Willebrand's disease, Hip dysplasia, Distichiasis, Gastric torsion, Sebaceous Adenitis, Addison’s disease, Mitral Valve disease, Eye and ear infections, Entropion, Pyotraumatic Dermatitis, Diabetes, and Corneal Dystrophy can affect the Weshi dog. Occasional tests for the Eyes, Hip area, Ears, and Heart will prevent them from getting various diseases.

Training

The training process can start by teaching the basic dog commands like sit, leave, and shh. The rest is some basic training like obedience, leash, crate, socialization, which will shape an obedient dog for the future. Frequent praise and food rewards will accelerate the overall training process.

Feeding

Branded dog foods will maintain the dog’s health and fitness. Any kind of diet plan should be fixed after consulting a proper Vet doctor.
