History

The Canis Panther was first bred in the 1970s by Mr. Stratten, Lopez and Jones who were personal dog trainers. Living in remote corners of their city, they felt that the other dogs were not bred decently and they do not serve the purpose of protection. So they crossed four dogs, namely, the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the Doberman Pinscher, the Black Labrador Retriever, and the Great Dane.

Temperament and Personality

Being a guard dog, they are also known as the ‘Ultimate Protector’ as they can sacrifice their lives to protect its family. They are knowledgeable, loyal, loving and alert making it perfect for a family dog. Their tolerance level is low so they cannot bare dogs of same-sex but can be comfortable with dogs of low dominance if trained well. Although they are wary of strangers, a proper introduction can bond them well with new visitors.

Exercise

As it is an active dog they are comfortable with long walks daily and running in a large covered area. They should be kept indoors during chilling temperatures to prevent them from catching a cold.

Grooming

Because of its short hair, grooming them is not very difficult, just brushing once a week is enough. Bathe them with dog shampoo as and when required as too much bathing can clear off natural oil from the skin. Brush their teeth with dog toothpaste to avoid teeth diseases and trim its nails if it’s too long. Additionally, check its eyes and ears regularly.

Health Problems

The breed is a healthy and has developed in recent years, so not much is known about it. However, if they have any cut on its body, it requires urgent medical treatment.

Training

The intelligent nature of the puppy makes teaching a little easy, but their stubborn behavior can be a problem. They need both leash and obedient training sessions with a firm and a consistent trainer. Early socialization will be best for guests as well as children to create entanglement.

Feeding

Big dogs need 4 to 10 cups of good quality dry food every day split into at least two meals. The quantity can vary with respect to age, size, health and metabolism.

Why reinvent the wheel? I would not recommend this dog to my clients! I have trained both Dobermans and Great Danes and I don't see any reason to mix them. Why not get just two Dobermans? Or two Great Danes? Better yet, two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers! Silly Silly!
