History
The Italian Greyhuahua is a cross breed of the Chihuahua and the Italian Greyhound. Since it is bred recently, not much is discovered about its origin.
Temperament and Personality
This dog is loving and loyal one with a robust possessive streak. It bonds well with one of its owners and expects the same from them. Being a protective dog, it might attack another dog, no matter the size. They require socialization and close supervision while staying with other pets. It can be playful and delightful and will love to follow people around and be physically close to them. However, with strangers, it can be timid, but early introduction can help.
Exercise
As it is an active breed, it does not require much activity to keep itself fit mentally and physically. Take them for jogging or leash walking, though not a vigorous one. Even though they are compatible with apartment life, but a yard would be a plus point for them to play off-leash. Also, visit a dog park to let them interact with other dog pets.
Grooming
The short hair of this dog is easy to maintain, just a minimal brushing for about twice a week can keep its hair away from dirt and mat. Bathe them only when they are in need of it and even clean its teeth twice a week to avoid bad smell. Other grooming sessions include cleaning of nails and checking and wiping of ears.
Health Problems
Crossbreeds are usually with their vast gene pool, so they remain healthy. But they might be affected by some of the dog health issues like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, progressive retinal atrophy, dental problems, allergies and skin conditions.
Training
This dog is not tough to train if taught consistently. Harsh and rude tones cannot be valid for long-term, instead, use positive techniques. Train them to socialize well with other pets and visitors. Also, teach them to be obedient and well-mannered within the apartment and let them know who the pack leader is.
Feeding
Feed the pet with ½ to 1 cup of high-quality dry dog food split into at least two meals daily. Also balance proper amount of nutrition, protein, and minerals in their diet according to its size and metabolism.
